Pickup on Saturday from 10-noon.  In the box this week there will be lettuce/spinach, a bit of early zucchini, broccoli, asparagus, and radish.  Also we're going to put in some garlic scapes.  If you've never heard of them here is an article from the Washington Post that talks about them. Garlic scapes are the top flowering end of the garlic.  You remove them to boost the growth of the garlic bulbs.  I cooked some of them in olive oil today for about 10 minutes until tender and they kind of reminded me of an intense green bean.  You can use them as you would scallions as garnish or you can even roast them in the oven or on the grill whole.  here is a another link talking about them.

Hello! And welcome to Hillside Prairie Gardens!

Join Our CSA! Community Supported Agriculture, also known as “CSA” connects you with a local farm in your community, creating the possibility for fresher, more nutritious produce with fewer negative impacts on our environment.  We both benefit from the partnership.Simply put you get a box of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs every week and we get to make a living providing the best food possible.

Why CSA?

Most “fresh” produce travels an average 1,500 miles to our grocery stores and tables, eating up non-renewable resources like plastics and fuel for packaging and transit, creating literally tons of pollution. This same produce takes days to travel cross-country and cross-continents, only to lose flavor and nutrients to the time it takes to reach our tables.

Hillside Prairie Gardens is able to provide many of the same varieties of produce with more flavor and better nutrition due to shortened harvest-to-delivery time, and we use fewer resources due to shorter distances traveled.

By buying produce locally, direct from Hillside Prairie Gardens, you receive nutritious, better tasting food, help improve our environment, and help ensure the success of a small local farm.
